Happy New Year- what will it bring?

I look back on yet another year as it draws to a close
and think of the things both good and bad that have happened
all a part of this thing we call life.

It would be easy to make a list, one for each
but I choose to remember them all in my mind
as lists put things in order and life is not like that.

I remember friends and family and pets that are lost, gone forever
to be replaced by new friends and new pets
but never forgetting those that are no longer with us.

Do the good things outweigh the bad
only in the eyes of the beholder
which differs from person to person.

What will the New Year bring with it
who can foretell and certainly none of us
but I am eager to be around to find out.

Considering the alternative.
