As in previous years, the Austin Pond Society held it’s Annual SPLASH! Party on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the home of Jeannie Ferrier and Steven Monfrini. The SPLASH! Party is held the week before the pond tour and it’s purpose is to bring as many of the tour participants and volunteers together to pick up their signs and packages containing their instructions and money boxes. At the same time, many owners are introduced to the volunteers that will be working their ponds.
The volunteer system is an integral part of the pond tour as without the many people that give up their time to man the different ponds and relieve the owners of the responsibility of checking in the guests as they arrive to view each pond, the tour would not be as successful as it is. A big thanks goes out to all of the willing bodies that performed this service over this weekend. I chatted to as many as I could when I arrived at each pond and without exception, they all were enjoying themselves as they greeted the many people that viewed the tour.
This particular SPLASH! Party started at 9:00 am and the Austin Pond Society provided a hearty breakfast prepared by our very own Laura Creaser and her husband Stefan, of breakfast tacos with all of the fixin’s along with juice and fruit. The many people who attended enjoyed this free meal and the food disappeared very quickly.
For this years beneficiaries of the tour, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Austin Police Operation “Blue Santa” in Austin, Texas. Austin Police Operation Blue Santa is a non-profit outreach program run by the Austin Police Department, the Austin Fire Department, Austin Energy, Austin Water Utilities, and the Texas National Guard. Mr and Mrs Klaus showed up to remind everyone that they are all participating in a very good cause as they circulated among the many owners, guests and volunteers.
BJ Jenkins, the Pond Tour Director addressed the gathered assembly to go over last minute details and answer any questions and by 11:00 am, the guests were leaving to enjoy the rest of the day.
Below is a slide show of the many visitors and Jeannie’s and Stevens beautiful property that we were able to enjoy.
