Danny, Richie and BeBe

I am sitting in front of my computer
looking out at the world
the day is grey and uninviting
and the weather is cold
the dogs are looking at me as if to say
can we get in your chair so we can stay
one dog on your lap and the other behind

Other than to check to see
that the ponds and filters are OK
there is no part of me
that wants to venture outside today
and so instead to write in my blog
with words nonsensical though they may be
and who do you think keeps me company
one dog on my lap and the other behind

For these past few days the weather here
in Texas has been subject to
an Arctic cold front blowing in
making the weather much colder than
that we are normally used to
but all of that can change
as Texas has a history
of changing weather, just wait a while
and you will see, just what it means to me
to have one dog on my lap and the other behind

The stubborn part of me
is in denial that this can be
so cold that I need to dress
myself in long pants and so
in shorts I remain even though it’s cold
the dogs understand and keep saying to me
you know we can keep you warm as you will see with
one dog on my lap and the other behind

Maybe that is why
I do not wish to venture out
for my legs do get cold
and I do complain
and so, I remain in the house
writing a blog, and who do you think
is my company, of course
one dog on my lap and the other behind.

They have warm little bodies
which they will share
as long as I give them
some of my chair, so without a thought
I do share and they resume their natural place
one dog on my lap and the other behind.

When they get restless
down they will go
and another will want to be treated the same
and will take the place to fill the space
one dog on my lap and the other behind

It does make it difficult to move
and at typing I am not the best
but I figure it better to be warm with
one dog on my lap and the other behind.

P.S. Danny does NOT sit on my lap…
