Austin Pond Society 2016 Post Pond Tour Meeting

DSC_3095The Austin Pond Society as it does every year in the meeting following the Annual Pond Tour, held it’s Post Pond Tour Meeting. There were over 70 members in attendance, by far and away the largest number of people this year. Following our usual custom, from 6:30 to 7:00 pm is reserved for a small meal and time for the membership to spend time with each other. Members supplied the deserts of which there were plenty. Thank you members. Jeannie took on the role of Hostess and greeted each person in line as she helped to serve the food, adding a very nice personal touch.

At 7:00 pm, the meeting was called to order with Jeannie bringing up different upcoming events such as the Photo Contest in September and a members only open house.

She also mentioned that Ted Paone as the Pond Tour Chairman is looking for a successor who will take over for the 2018 Tour. The objective being that whoever that person is, they will be co-chairs to learn the ropes under Ted. On the same subject, there are several members of the current Board who are looking to step down and we will need replacements for them. Among those known positions are Publicity, Treasurer and Parliamentarian. If you are interested or know someone who may be, contact Jeannie Ferrier at president@austinpondsociety.org.

Many of the owners and volunteers were in attendance to enjoy the meal and to receive the plaudits of the other members and to watch a video that Glen Hubenthal who as the Official Photographer put together. This year, we did things a little different. Instead of the Owners receiving their participation gift at the SPLASH! Party, it was given to them as their ponds were displayed on the screen at this meeting. As is the custom, they were asked to say a few words, good or bad, about their experiences along with any recommendations they may have for the future tours.

The gifts this year was a photograph of their ponds done on canvas. Very beautiful.. See the video below.

Following the business and the presentations to the owners, Jeannie had a bit more business and then conducted the drawing for the door prizes. The meeting ended just after 8:00 pm. The next one is scheduled for July 18 and the Speaker will be  Mark Klym,  Texas Amphibian Watch: Educator Activities. The Title:  “What a Difference Water Can Make”  with the theme being “A little water makes any place home.” Hope to see you there.
