After taking off the month of December, the Austin Pond Society was back with its first monthly meeting of the year starting very appropriately in January.
The location is still the same at the Austin Botanical Garden Meeting room at Zilker Park. The start time has not changed and is still at 6:30 pm and I am very happy to say that Sonja’s cooking tasted better than ever if that is at all possible. The dinner for the evening was Happy New Year sliders with Black Eyed Peas with scrumptious desert of small iced cakes. Delicious.
Our new President, Jeannie Ferrier, went down with a strep throat and was unable to attend/preside over her first meeting. B.J. Jenkins who normally is in charge of Publicity stepped up and did an admiral job as acting President and the business side of the proceedings zipped along very smoothly. Thank you B.J.
Steve Monfrini was the scheduled speaker and his topic was Landscape Lighting in and around your ponds. I found the subject very interesting and Steve presented it in a way we could all understand. One thing is very clear and that is that the initial cost of LED lighting may be higher than normal incandescent but the electrical consumption and the extended life of the bulbs make the overall cost much cheaper. Thank you Steve for such an “illuminating” presentation. (Sorry, couldn’t help myself).
Apologies for the quality of the video as I was unable to remove the shadows as I can with a normal image. Maybe I need different software…
The next meeting is scheduled for February 17, same time and place.
