U11 Game today-March 31, 2012

Looks like the same team...

The little boys played today at Quarry against the Hays team that we had managed to beat 4-2 earlier in the season. It was obvious right from the start, that both teams had improved tremendously from our first meeting.

The game was a good one and both teams were pretty evenly matched. We got lucky on several occasions when they had players that should have scored but failed to put the ball in the net. We, on the other hand, had a lot of good midfield play but it broke down in front of goal or their goalkeeper made a save.

We scored first when Andrew Scott made a long dribbling run from the left side and then beat the keeper with a low hard drive from the corner of the penalty area.  It was a beautifully well taken individual left footed goal. Ian had the chance to increase our advantage but shot the ball wide.

In the second half after a period of sustained pressure, the other team managed to equalize to tie the game up to 1- 1 which is how it remained through the end of the game. Jack made one fantastic save when it looked for all of the world that the other team would score and Hank was unlucky up at the other end.

All in all, it was a good result for us as both teams were evenly matched. Every player had some moments of brilliance but I thought that Leo, Alex and up front, Andrew Scott, all had good games.

Generally, our passing was good and we seem to have helped with the missing midfield problem as today, I thought we dominated the midfield. Alex continues to impress with his kicking game and just missed with one free kick. We need to work on our first touch as several times it was so poor that the ball got completely away from us.

All in all, a very satisfactory performance. Hope we play as well tomorrow.
